RACE REPORT 29 March 2025
4 Apr by Peter Viney
This will be a pretty short report, basically because your scribe was elsewhere. But he had sent someone to keep an eye on things.
The weather was apparently challenging with the South Channel recording southerlies at up to 20 kn for most of the afternoon, it wasn’t much better where I was. This led to a few elections not to sail as Tony C was suffering back issues and Richard F thought better of looking after his newly reconstructed knees.
The result of this was that I can report with confidence that Andrew and Lew were unbeatable in Division 2 winning all three races in the absence of other sailors (it still counts as a race, even if only one boat finishes, RRS 35). In Division 3 Opti’s were sailed by Harry, Bobby and Sophie. The boys should be on alert as Sophie was only 4 minutes back of Harry who led Bobby by a minute and a half in race 1. In race 2 Sophie retired and Harry prevailed when Bobby filled the boat. Harry was the sole competitor in Race 3.
Division 1 boats were the visiting Fireball skippered by Addy B and OK sailed by Dustin P. Locals were Mike W (OK), Peter C and Peter E (Radials) and Callum on a 4.7 Laser. Race 1 saw Mike K leading Peter C by a minute with Peter E a further minute back. Callum was half a minute behind Peter E and the fireball was three minutes behind Callum with Dustin a minute and a half behind the Fireball. The result is probably a bit unfair to the Fireball which is very fast and put in an extra triangle. This was apparent in race 2 when the Fireball was four minutes ahead of Mike W who led Peter C by 12 seconds. Callum was a short minute back with Dustin a minute and a half back. (Peter E had retired to have a snag with L2S on their last day). Peter C had been threatening in the first two races and finally led Mike W by 22 seconds in race 3. Callum trailed Mike by 38 seconds with Dustin a minute back.
Thanks are due to John Walter, who is back from OS, and acted as RO. Peter V was with John and Glen was rescue boat. Special thanks to Mike W, Mollie and Angelique who ran the L2S sessions through the year with able assistance from Nate and Riley.

And in a new and occasional bit:
Your Scribe has decided that he often gets things wrong and he would be wise to write down any hints and learnings soon after a race for review, this is a progression to a ‘professional attitude’ to sailing; and he is prepared to share them with you as a learning experience; so:
Learning 46 From a book nearly within reach of the bed: “Even a high performance craft is only as good as its crew”.
(Better keep trying to learn)
