RACE REPORT 26 April 2025

30 Apr by Peter Viney

It was a beautiful and warm Easter with the sun warming all and on Easter Saturday the Taser forward Committee member, accompanied by the Taser rear Committee member and forward committee member’s uncle visited 37 garage sales in the Philip Island vicinity, it being the traditional day for garage sales on Philip Island. We even snagged some prospective bargains.

Apparently it was a good idea as back at Indented Head, Mike W, Rico W, Andrew G, Callum S and Richard F floundered around in no wind as OOD, Peter C tried valiantly to get a race going with no wind and what there was moving all over the place; at least that’s what he told me. Racing was abandoned.

Fortunately the wind was a well behaved 5 to 15 knots for the ILCA training days this last Saturday and Sunday (we won’t mention the rain on Saturday) and they joined us for our scheduled races on Saturday. Our sailors were Callum S, Peter C, Mike W and visitor Dustin Popp in Div 1, Tony C in Div 2 and Harry C in Div 3. Div 3 & 2 had clear winners in both races. In race 1 Div 1, in a surprise result, Peter Creak got over the line 9 seconds up on Mike Williams with Dustin a mere 7 seconds further back. Callum was 30 seconds later. Sense returned in race 2 as Mike led Callum by a minute and a quarter with Peter 45 seconds behind. Dustin was a minute and a half back. (He may have tipped the OK).

Thanks to all who helped out for the weekend, especially the Creak family, Tony, Julie and Harry’s Dad. Peter Viney was there for Saturday and Glen was magnificently launching boats and running a crash boat with assistance from Tim Waller (and yet another Harry). Alex did timing on Saturday and only forgot to push the button once.

Coming up:

Saturday and Sunday 3 & 4 May 2025.
SAIL BELLARINE
As we host up to 80 boats from all over including Taser Titles and races for Dutchmen, Sabres, OK’s, Aero’s and Opti’s.
All welcome to come and watch and, if you have free time, on Friday or Saturday or Sunday see what you can do as a volunteer. (Contact Julie who has a list)

And in a new and occasional bit:
Your Scribe has decided that he often gets things wrong and he would be wise to write down any hints and learnings soon after a race for review, this is a progression to a ‘professional attitude’ to sailing; and he is prepared to share them with you as a learning experience; so in the final learning of the year:
Learning 50 Re-read the other learnings so you remember something.
