Sabre Travellers Trophy
25 Nov by Peter Viney
The Victorian association have decide to introduce a Traveller’s Trophy to encourage people to sail at different events. The series this season will consist of three regattas, “Go for Gold”, State Championship and finish at Sail Bellarine down at Indented Head Sailing Club. We realise that this is very short notice as the Go for Gold event is this weekend, however we would like to test it out. Next season there will be 5 regattas starting off with Top of The Lake at Albert Park followed by Sail Mordi, Go for Gold at Black Rock, State Titles and the final at Sail Bellarine.
Scoring will be a calculation that will take into account the following:
a. your result - P
b. number of entries - N
c. a rating for the event - E
Points = E (N-P+1) / N
The State Titles will be given a ranking of 100, due to its importance.
Go for Gold and Sail Mordi 40, are both local for most people and are easy to get too.
Top of the Lake at Albert Park 50 as it is still local but not well attended
Sail Bellarine 70 to encourage people to undertake the travel and for most people it would be an overnight stay.
Let’s see how these Event ratings work, we may play around with them for the next season.
This is a great opportunity to get some practice in and have the opportunity to ask those up the front of the fleet questions on how to set up your boat and ways to improve. That’s on the water, the real benefit comes when we get back on shore for the social gatherings and post-race debrief. Encouraging the comradery and catching up with friends is one of the reasons we go sailing. The main reason is “Because it’s FUN”
