RACE REPORT 3 January 2026
8 Jan by Peter Viney
Here is a very short race report because your scribe was at Phillip Island to see the New Year in and it was very quiet. The Scribe’s brother’s Nacra did not get towed in by a jet ski this year (actually he’s sold it) and the firework people did not set fire to the pier this year. Your scribe didn’t even take his golf clubs, so there was no excitement on the Royal Wonthaggi Golf Course.
Back at Indented Head seven sailors raced. In Division 1 we were visited by Aeros sailed by Danny R, Richie H and Ron F and they were very competitive with Ron leading Danny in race 1 with John W third but ahead of Manfred and Richie H in his very new Aero which he is still learning about. In race 2 Danny was up on Manfred with Ron third ahead of John W and Richie.
In Division 2, race 1 Andrew D showed more form on his new boat coming in ahead of visitor Miles G by 35 seconds with Lucy trailing him by a mere 5 seconds. In race 2 Andrew retired leaving Gavin a minute up on Lucy.
Thanks are due to Zeth as race officer, Peter V who kept the times and Glen on the safety boat
Coming up:
Saturday 10 January 2026.
1400 Matthew Flinders series commences.
Saturday 17 January 2026.
1400 Matthew Flinders series continues (includes Commodore Cup).
With no sailing over the winter your scribe had a bit of spare time which he put to use by borrowing a couple of books from the Club so he could learn to navigate. Here are some of the things he learnt:
Wind is slower at the sea surface than aloft and bends sound waves. Upwind of a horn the sound waves bend upward, making a silent zone. Downwind the sound waves bend downward; you can hear a horn at unusually long range.
