Drop In Information Meeting for new IHYC clubhouse - CoGG Town Planning approval process is continuing!

5 Feb by Peter Ellenby

Indented Head Yacht Club (IHYC) is a vibrant water sports club located at Indented Head beach, offering sailing during the warmer months, and swimming activities all year round.

Proposed redevelopment of IHYC clubhouse

To consolidate and grow the club, IHYC proposes redeveloping our clubhouse into a multi-purpose facility supporting sailing, swimming, boating, and the local community.

The proposal involves demolishing the existing Yacht Club building and replacing it with a new double-storey facility. The building will not exceed 8.1 metres AHD in height, with solar roof panels reaching a maximum of 8.72 metres AHD. The finished floor level will be 1.79 metres AHD, and the facility will include changeroom and shower facilities.

The ground floor will contain an 84 square metre social room, male and female changerooms with toilets and showers, a unisex accessible combined toilet, shower and changeroom, and a secure fenced storage yard.

In addition, two unisex public toilets are provided to the south of the building, including one universal accessible facility.

Materials will include Colorbond roofing, timber wall cladding, grey blockwork to match existing structures, and grey aluminium balustrades.

IHYC has applied to the City of Greater Geelong (CoGG) for Town Planning approval. Details are available at https://www.geelongaustralia.com.au/advertisedplanning/adlist_detail.aspx?app_number=996/2025

Community Engagement

There has been considerable interest from the Indented Head community and the broader Bellarine region, where residents and visitors use the Club as part of their foreshore experience.

In response, IHYC is hosting a drop-in information meeting on Saturday, 14 February 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the Indented Head Community Hall, immediately following the IHYC Wreck2Reef Open Water Swim.

The meeting aims to:
• Provide information on the need and purpose of the new clubhouse
• Answer questions and provide information as available
• Seek feedback from the community on any aspects of interest.

Project information will also be available on the IHYC website, including a contact email for public commentary and supporting social media updates.

Public advertising is also conducted via the City of Greater Geelong Town Planning process, available at https://www.geelongaustralia.com.au/advertisedplanning/default.aspx
